mono sub amp vs. class d amp

Mono refers to the amp having 1 channel and class-D is the class of the amp. Another common class for car audio amps is class A/B. Do a search on the different classes and you will learn the difference between them.

I did some research.. seems to me the differences are minute between class a/b and d. I'm just gonna go with whatever is cheapest (but still decent) for my simple sub setup.

The differences is not as minute, especially at higher power levels. Efficiency is the biggest difference. Most mono amps are class D these days, because they are typically designed to drive subs, and you don't need them in stereo.
