heres it with the top off and where the chip is

you want to take off the Q chip not the D

Also, the compression circuit is a little white button next to the rca end of the amp. It needs to be pushed in the "out" position.

alright so some info from others

all from the man himself

"Modding it is pretty easy if you're familiar with removing circuits with a soldering iron. You have to remove resistor Q240 from the board and release the compression circuit."

"q 240 is located in the south west quadrant of the amp... you have to be careful to not remove d240 that is right beside it. Also, the compression circuit is a little white button next to the rca end of the amp. It needs to be pushed in the "out" position. "

"They dont do it from the factory because the chip you remove is the part of the protection circuitry that shuts the amp down if it see's a load below 2 ohms (ie dead short) so when modded you have to be careful not to touch the speaker leads together while the amp is on, or you will short it out. And yes, the mod will allow up to 18.5 dc volts and down as low as you feel comfortable on impedance... I wouldnt suggest any lower than .5 for daily. "

I just sold my thunder 801D. But plan to buy it back in the future. can it be modded like the 1501?

yea but nobody has any pictures to show. only found 1 from roei think it'd be easier with pictures so ima just document mine
Ngism made a decent guide decades ago, if you searched hard enough I'm sure you could find it.

No.

No.
i did look it up quite a bit. spent about 2 hours total reading many forums and many peoples experiences about it.

but i still dont have a clear picture. like about the white switch i have to "let out" im going to take a picture of that.

im just going to make a clearer more detailed forum about. im sure all my questions other ppl are thinking the same thing.

so if i tell them what i did im sure i could help them out a bit.

perfectly valid facepalm. who would waste time modding a p.o.s. like that? and who really needs a 4 channel that small to handle a 1 ohm load?
it has .25% thd @ 4 ohms. imagine how nasty it would sound at 1 ohm.
its a buddy's amp that is pushing 2 10's i know i told him it was but that's what he wanted
