Mixing Subs

I've been told that I shouldn't mix sub sizes. I would like to know what the real problem is with mixing say 2 Brahma 10's and 1 Brahma 15?

That is the system I want. I personally have gotten sick of 12's. I have a 15 and am borrowing 2 10's. They aren't in my car, I don't have anything to power all three, and I need the trunk space for my skiing equipment. IMO the combo sounds just fine, even though they are different brands.

So if someone could clear this up for me it would be great, whether there is a problem or if the person/people who told me this were just bias against one size. The reason I want to do this is because I like the tight hitting of the 10's and the lows of the 15.

A: you look like a **** when you mix woofers...

B: tens play higher frequencies, and a 15 plays low, you may end up just hearing the 15....cancellation issues arise

C: plus the 15 and tens can't be in the same box.

D: this will work well if you have a custom switcher to switch between the 2, all at once will more than likely sound like as s....

Not necessarily....theoretically you could use the 10's for midbass, but they would need to be mounted somewhere inside the cabin as opposed to the trunk.

Billy - you could get a Brahma 15 and and the Koda Series comps in kick panels................or maybe something like an ED SP15 and some E8A's custom mounted in your doors. Just a suggestion.

I've mixed subs before... one thing is just don't build it in the same box... could cause damage...

meh.. i wanted to go louder.. don't even notice a difference in quality.. just pure booming...

no cancelation happens... u get more amplitude (well from my 2 x10's then adding a 12)

Hey smartguy. if your tired of 12's, why dont you go with:

A)three 10's

B)two 15's

I don't see how you get cancelation when you have different sub sizes playing different frequencies... If 'mixing speakers' caused cancelation problems, how can you run 6.5"s with 5.25" ?

There is NOTHING wrong with mixing sub sizes.. just be smart about it.. they can NOT share a common chamber (box is relative, if one 'box' has 3 chambers, 15 in the middle and 10"s on the sides, no issues)... Don't have them run the same frequencies, the 'bigger' sub will be all you hear (for the most part) and you waste the smaller subs..

Basically, all frequency ranges should be played on the same size speakers if they are in the same area (6.5"s in the deck lid/back of the car and 5.25"s in the front doors running some of the same frequencies isn't an issue.. if the 5.25"s are next to the 6.5"s, you are wasting the 5.25"s)..

I think you get the idea..

Ok, what about the "perfect" set up. Perfect meaning it was made for exactly what I want and does what I want and nothing more nothing less.

The 2 10's facing the cabin from the trunk with ports coming into the cabin under the passenger seats of my car. The 15 facing skyward in the spare tire well in my trunk. Port from that box coming to the center of the rear seats facing the ceiling/rear window. (my car has 2 rear seats and a divider) Along with that they are the same sub brand, same model, just different sizes. The boxes are completely independent. Not one edge of any box is tangable to the other boxes. Amps all the same brand, different models (just for power sake). Gains matched to keep the subs at the same loudness level.

Now, I want factual answers here. If it sounds bad tell me why, how, and what makes it sound bad. Not just because it will. I don't want opinions like oh I'll look like a **** having some diversity in my car. I just want sound, I'm interested in SPL but I want a balanced sound foremost. The SPL will just be for show off.

So go and start thinking real reasons why I shouldn't try this.
