mini antenna reception?

So, how is it compared to a normal 10-12" long one? I'm talking about the little 3-4" one cheapo ones. I need one, it broke when taking the cover off, and i'm thinking of one of the little mini nice looking metal ones. If the reception suffers, i'm going to go with the stock.
