Mids making a slapping noise

I have a set of Rainbow Germaniums, mounted on a custom MDF baffle with a layer of modeling clay between them. At higher volumes, the mids make a odd slapping like noise. I have the HPF set at 100, with a slope of -6db, And they are only getting ~75 watts of power, so its not due to being over powered. Anyone have any idea whats causing this? Should I remove the modeling clay?

Are you sure it isn't just getting over powered? Is your slope adjustable, or are you stuck at 6 dB? From my experience, a 6 dB/oct HPF just isn't enough for most midbass drivers... I had much better results going with 12 or 18dB.

Probably tinsel slap. Temporarily e-tape the leads down to the spider and see if the issue is resolved. If so, use something like hot glue or silicone to make permanent.
What is tinsel slap? I noticed that the tinsel leads on one of the mids wasnt making complete contact with the cone.
