the middle part of the subwoofer the round cone, fell off and i lost the piece. the sound is messed up, i thought it sounded fine at first but, not sure what happened lately it sounds really messed up when i try to turn up the sound loud like i blew out the sub. maybe i did since i was turning it up really really loud ever since i got the system fixed. it sounded really good when i first got the system fixed and the subwoofer cone part was still missing.

i'm guessing if it's not expensive i'll try to fix the cone and see if that fixes the problem. does this have to be taken to a car audio tech to get fixed? would it be expensive or should I look into getting another sub?

thanks

but how was it sounding fine for a while with it missing? it was sounding so loud and good that I even went and got the trunk dynamatted to stop the rattling of the trunk.

what kind of sub is it? and how much did you get it for??
It's an Ample Audio EXONIC 12X competition sub, I didn't pay anything my relatives have car audio stores here but, I just tried to look up the cost and found a site online selling it for about $450. I'm not sure what happened to ample they don't sell their merchandise anymore but, it was one of their high end subs with a huge magent that it barely fits into a standard 12" sub enclosure. Maybe I should just replace it with a 12" Punch subwoofer.

It was this one -

i've had this same system hooked up since 2003 so it's lasted a while, the bass was so loud the sub box ended up cracking and had to get it replaced, I bet the middle part of the cone finally came off due to the bass. i guess it's around that time to get a new sub.

well yeah then just get another new sub; but if pounds like you just stated then fix it.
**** yeah it's loud, i'm not sure what else could compare to this sub it's just one sub and even with the cone part missing after i got the speaker box replaced recently i would drive up to traffic lights and people would pull up their windows lol it's one of those systems you can hear the sound in your house from down the street.

even though the sub is old i don't want to give it up. is this a type of fix that I would need to take to a technician? the middle part wasn't actually a cone it was flat, so i wonder if i could just take a piece of cardboard and superglue it?

although i'm starting to think i must've blown the sub since it doesn't make sense that it was sounding so good and loud with the middle part missing that i went and got it dynamatted and now all of a sudden it sounds messed up.

i blew out the noise filter the other day and had to get it replaced, i wonder if it's the noise filter again that's the problem. could a faulty noise filter make it sound like the speaker is blown? since sometimes it will sound fine and then other times it sounds like it's blown, it doesn't always sound like that and i just noticed this today and yesterday is when i got the noise filter replaced. i guess i should just take it back down to the shop.

is that all it's for is to prevent dust from getting in there? does it make a difference to the sound with it or without, like distort the sound?
The sub operates using a voice coil and the gap where the voice coil sits isn't very forgiving when it comes to having anything else in there. Dust or any other interference can potentially hurt your sub. I feel like it could help with cooling down the voice coil though, but I still wouldn't risk it.
