midbass box?

I picked a pari of Type S componets I am only going to use the 6 1/2's I was considering making a box for them to achieve more mid-midbass. What would be a good tuning and enclosure size? 2 boxes mounted in a side panel or kick panel. I might put them in the doors.

Later in the futher I will replace with soundstream midbass.

u wouldn't need to tune a midbass box

No box is nessary, most midbass speakers are meant to be free air.

The trouble with the Type S 6 1/2's (and most other car oriented speakers) is they are designed to work effectively infinite baffle, and the correct size enclosure for them ends up being pretty large (ie, about the size of your door cavity)

So you either damp/SD the hell out of the door to improve the performance as much as possible, or choose a rugged home oriented midbass driver that is designed to work in a small enclosure.

ok then. I willl install these IB style and later when I get my soundstream midbass I will deal with that later.

The goal here is to achieve that punchy drumroll bass that I seem to be missing and these type s are just a temp quick fix.

I would like to know some opionions about those baffles too ! I bought some of those foam baffles, there are for the moisture protection. Look on egay for foam baffles

Did they give any punchy performance gains, or did they not effect sound quality at all ?

I ran mine in their own enclosures for a while, but recently redid my doors and wow...Now that i have them I/B its a night and day difference. It sounded good before, just seemed like they couldnt keep up with rock music thus sounded shitty. Running them sealed took basically all the low end response out of them too. I would deaden the doors good and call it a day. I do have a baffle on the rear of mine with a cutout to sortof "downfire" it into the door cavity. Dont know if that made a difference but it sounds **** good.

The XTC baffles are nice thick sturdy foam.

I was thinking of AP venting the baffles on my 10" mids if necessary. The midranges are going in a sealed baffle. I'm surprised that they're not used more often.

He is trying to protect them from the weather. Yes, they take alot of low end out of the music.

Well, I put a type S alpine 6 1/2 componet in there for now and moved the 4x6 up. I am cuting a grill pattern in the door panel and I will put black fabric behind it to give it that stock appearence.
