I have personally owned both and would take the jbl over the polks. That said I have never been happy with my mid bass untill I went higher end...so maybe someone can shine a light on a great mid bass lower cost speaker but they haven't been easy for me to come across. I would take the jbl's over everything I can think of off the top of my head in that price range.

Most components on the market that have good or decent mid bass is gonna cost you $250+! But as you know preparing your doors is just as important as the components you choose

I wouldn't be able to tell ya the start of what I would call high end. I went from toying around with 200-300 comps and just Wasn't satisfied so I went to dynaudio and have never looked back so I kinda skipped that big price range between. I did own a set of the old pioneer 720prs comps and wad impressed with them mid wise.
