hi all, im working on a friends car doing a head unit install for him, after i pulled the dash apart and got the old head unit out (which hadnt worked sense someone tried to steal it). i started hooking up the head units wiring harness and then plugged in the head unit to make sure it worked before i put it back in, well i got nothing, i checked all my connections, fuses, etc and got nothing, i put a volt meter on the power wires and there was no power the constant or the battery lead. so then i checked everything else that i could and i found nothing wrong with any of the wires, so to be sure it was the power wires i hooked up a new ground and new power wires and the head unit worked except it got pretty hot so i disconected everything.
So my question is what else can i do to try to get the stock wires to work? what else can i check? the car was broken into and someone tried to take the old headunit but i see no visual damage on the wires or anything else in the dash.
If i end up having to run new wires can i just run 2 12v wires and a new ground? or does the memory power wire need to be somthing else? because when i had 2 straight 12v wires for the switched power and the memory wire the headunit got very hot. Any suggestions would be great.
