I've owned a sundown 1500 and sold it.. wish i would own a merlin md2d to try it at least :/.. just my opinion though i'd take the sundown. also, is the md2d even strappable? Ididn't think to look.

i just want 1500@1...plan on running eights or 15"s so i dont really need strapable

I chose Sundown Audio, but from what I hear the MD2D is a solid amp. US Amps older stuff is was the best out there, but in my opinion the only thing I really like from US Amps are the AX series.

The Sundown SAZ 1500d will be more flexible if you make changes in the future also.

Sundown will play down to .5ohm for daily with good electrical. Mine perform flawlessly at .75 each and NO dimming. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one or two.

There is quite a bit of testing out on the 1500D. I don't want to "spam" the SSA forum so I won't link direct, but on my forum over there there are several testing threads. Here are some results:

1510 watts @ 1 ohm w/ 12.4 volts

1635 watts @ 1 ohm w/ 12.8 volts

1890 watts @ 0.5 ohms w/ 12.8 volts

Those are the most important specs from the testing for most people buying these amps. Done at realistic car voltage levels.

depending on what year model md2d you're talking about. 06 md2d will need 14.4 to reach a full 2k rms and are not linkable. i'm not sure on the power of the 07 model, but they are linkable. the 07 some be some very nice amps.

Sundown is my choice just becuase of customer service. When I had ?'s on the amps strapping etc. Jake was on the phone w/ me for a total of 2 hrs. at least over a 2 day period, talking tech. and just chattin about other installs and future plans w/ my car. Those 2 sundowns are beatin like nobodys business on 2 15" mags in a 04' Explorer. The price is not that high for a product as dependable and as down to earth is as the sundown amps are. 12v specs are the daily drivers language.

Unless the prices on the MD2D just suddenly dropped, the last time I've checked it was on the same scale/price level as the sundown 1500d, if not the same pretty close to being the same. I'd like to see where you can get a MD2D for 250$ new. Both are said to be solid amps, I own the 1500d, but I've heard great review/things about both. Wanted a MD2D before, both are sexy amplifiers!

As much as I like US Amps, I would choose the Sundown...

+1 Jacob's customer service is outstanding. And his products are first rate. I would recommend the 1500D to anyone looking for a high quality, dependable powerhouse.
