memphis st-300 going into protect

I just bought a used memphis st-300 which is like the mc-300 and it keeps going into protect at very high volumes. It's fine until I get the volume above 30 or so then it goes into protect. any idea what might be causing this.

It comes back out of protect as soon as I turn the volume back down

After reading a bit on other threads do you think that it's the pre-out voltage is too high from my 880prs which is causing it to clip the signal sending it into protect

Also whenever the volume gets to say 34 it will play for a little while then go into protect and I have an rca running on the output side of the memphis amp to another amp and that amp won't get any signal when the memphis is in protect

so whatever it is it is clippping the input and ouputs for the rcas
