memphis pr1000.1 and alpine type r not hitting certain notes.

Hey guys, first off thanks for looking. I just bought an older memphis pr1000.1 amp and an older alpine type r 12 (silver model 500 rms) Anyway, the sub is dual 4 ohm and i have it wired down to 2 ohms. (amp does 600rms at 2 ohms). The box is ported and 1.85 cu. I drive a 1998 mustang gt and sub and port is facing trunk. This thing SLAMS around 40 hz, but other than that i can barely hear anything. its like night and day, it doesnt make any sense. Any suggestions why? Anything is appreciated.

Also, im thinking about upgrading to either a soundqubed hds 12 or an american bass xfl 12. My amp does 1000 rms at 1 ohm. I know the hds is 1200 rms and the xfl is 1000 rms but what would give me more output in the 1.85 cu box? Any input is appreciated. Also, i have owned the soundqubed hdc315 and was pretty impressed. Thanks!

I dont have the room for 2 cubes haha, you shouldve saw me trying to fit this box in my trunk. It was a struggle. My Subsoninc filter is set about 28 hz. with the size box i have which sub would you prefer? Also im pretty sure this box is too big for the type R so could that have anything to do with it?
