Memphis MOJO 4k HELP!!!

Ok man, your right, this is a very complicated unit. I never said you broke it man. I never even contacted you. I may very well have been damaged in shipping. But I am not a retard, there is an issue with the amp. And I know its not user error.
never said you were a retard, but 6-8 months later you want to say the amp has issues. come on, that amp was pulled out of my car working, and you even wrote in the feedback section how well the amp was packed. so there has got to be an issue other than the amp. ( voltage, ground, ect) you know you have to trouble shoot these things before you do send it off and waste money on a repair.

It's almost certainly some broken part legs, they connect, then disconnect, causes surges, eventually it will go up in smoke, you are much better unhooking it and having it checked out. I have worked on enough Memphis 4K's to know what kind of problems they develop, even over a short period of time. I would recommend some other shop, but I don't know of any that can repair these things right. My customers tell me they have tried other shops with these amps and none of the times where the repairs sucessful or satisfactory.

i have checked and double checked what was been suggested here. So it has to be something lose or something in the amp. Yes you by far did the best packaging job I have seen on a used item. That afgan came in handy lol

That would explain why it works sometimes at high volume and other times not. thanks for the info.

Thanks Jacob!

Now there is someone who has really done some business with me, Jacob Fuller of Sundown Audio. He can tell you I am a no BS kind of guy and really good at what I do, and actually, I don't think Jacob and I have EVER had words over any subject. Been nothing but "nice" to each other, as there was never a need to not be nice.

Whatever you do, unhook the amp, stop using it and have it checked out before you blow it all to hell. It most likely has some legs broken on some of the mosfets or rectifiers or both and if you keep using it, even if it appears to work properly, you run a very big risk of blowing it up and therefore DOUBLING the repair bill.

The shop has sent in a few 4kw's back on warranty and multiple times they have came back not fixed. so even memphis has issues fixing them sometimes. i just hope the new 4kw's are a little more reliable than the older ones.

i have yet to see a benchtest on a new one. curious if it puts out more or less power than the old 4kw.

Thanks again everyone. Sorry to come off as a dick here. I am going to try giving it its own ground. it is sharing it with the 4 channel. If i have an issue again the amp will come out and be put up for sale with a link to this thread. Thanks to everyone for chiming in.

The amp design is great. It's the implementation that's bad. Not Memphis fault, as they likely do not design or build their amps, they are simply a marketing company... I may be "somewhat" wrong on that, but some of you here know what I mean. As far as repairing them, there is only one way to do it, and if you want it to hold up to vibration the mosfets and rectifiers have to be hand soldered a "special" way that can take hours to do the whole amp, but it will likely never break a leg again after it's done. The upgraded soldering is considered a "requirement" here at dB-r and is not optional, hence the high repair prices here.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif It could be something loose somewhere. If it cuts out at a certain volume, the vibrations could be doing it. The amp will turn off until it gets reset. It could be anything with the info you have givin.
i had the exact problem happen to me 2 weeks ago.

it's probably a power or ground loose. check EVERY SINGLE connection point start to finish on the power/grounds. mine was loose inside one of the fuse blocks. give a few good tugs to every power connection.
