Memphis fix kits?

gaskets or surrounds? Both can be cheaply replaced, though you will have to go with a different surround that will change the parameters of the speaker.

If the gasket, remove it and put some foam or rubber gasket tape on the box such that it is under the driver's mounting ring.

speak of the devil, i was just talking about the memphis rubber double-rolled surrounds splitting apart in cold temps. the best thing to do is to replace the surrounds with a standard single-roll surround. it is best if you know how to align the cone before doing this, which involves removing the dust-cap from the middle of the cone. the parts are pretty cheap, but if you don't think you are up to the alignment, and aren't able to be careful about repairing the sub, it may go out of alignment and destroy itself. there are several members that can do it for you, but stop playing the sub(s) before they do damage to themselves.

Is that surround like the JBL "M" roll surrounds??

check out the speaker exchange's site. I have used the 8 and 10 in surrounds many times.

They are very thick and are a good quality as well.

Here is a pic.

I know they make it in a 6", 7", 8" and 10".

I refoam lots of Toyota/JBL/Mark Levenson subs and they all use this style foam.

^^^that will keep it closer to original, but the only double-rolls i have seen last as long as a comparable single roll is the o/s cerwin-vega orange surrounds. it's a weak/flawed design, imho

hmm, what is the lifespan of the ones you are needing to replace?... i'm about to replace a couple memphis studio surrounds with single roll light-weight butyl, if i can get it, but idk....

rubber is usually a much better option.

If you do find some, pm me where you got them as I would like a few for different subs.

yah, qms will change, but i think the lighter rubber will keep that to a minimal. what i suspect will have more of an effect with changing to a single roll by itself, is the fs and vas, since the center of the roll will no longer move around more independently, nor have a ballancing effect on the softparts. i hope to have a decent t/s tester next month, and i might build a controll to test the different surrounds and find out for sure

I think memphis may be fixing it but if not, ill prolly have my buddie do this. he use to be big into subs and stuff and he got compleatly out of it. hes actually making a custom box for my grand prix for two kicker L7s. how cheap are these rings? it is cracked 3/4 the way around, i think he can handle getting them on right. that way i dont have to deal with memphis. also you guys said something about cold wether cracking these? i live in MN where its cold a lot, is there a certain one that will hold up better than other for cold temps. i always try to warm the vehicle up inside before turning them on but, you know how it goes. shut it off with the music blaring and turn it on again.

well, if you are going to run into the same problem again, and want to keep it double-roll, i would switch to foam. rubber/butyl single-rolls have lasted the longest in any conditions, in my experience. they can get real stiff at sub-zero temps, but they don't blow apart, or crack when it happens. foam surrounds in general have a lower life-span.
