Whats wrong with flash, besides the amount of bandwith it takes up? Most of the forum members on here i talk to have cable modems so i dont' see how that would affect them. I mean who on here isn't running atleast a cable or dsl? I just thought flash would be good to add interest to the site is all but i guess everyone must have 56k modems uh?/end sarcasm
Its not even just about that. Flash is, well, "flash" its just for looks with no real other benefit in this case. For one, most everybody SUCKS at making flash user friendly. HTML (php) is DEFINITLY the way to go these days with online bulletin boards. Its like audiobahn, too much bling and not enough performance. vB is powerful and simple, flash is complicated and fairly uncharted territory with online forums, not something to venture into, let alone by SCRATCH. It will never happen, and shouldnt happen.

Well you couldn't be more right about it being difficult. I remeber back in my webmaking days i was good at html, java, dhtml but when it came to flash i just never could grasp it and gave up on it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif. Now that i think of it i don't think i have seen a flash based forum, but then again maybe there is a reason for that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/titanic.gif.8089b7552c370bcc138aa121756d0c0b.gif

well when i was makin a website for fbla competition we made a flash and an html site. kind of like 2 different sites, but they were the exact same. now i dont know if you could do this with a message board or not, but if you can, you could make a flash version and an html version. but use the same content files so that the same posts show up in each version. this is alot of work but would be neat.

btw im kind of partial to a blue / grey color scheme

also as posted before, member only posts in the gallery was kind of nice.

maybe even delete post count all together

Thanks everyone for the ideas.

As far as flash goes, it would slow the page loading time down considerably and likely turn away visitors.

There are already TOS in place to help stop spam, ****, etc.

We use VB3, which is the most current version, but it currently doesn't support a spell checker.

I'm possibly open for color changes though. The current ones have been in place for some time now. Any ideas? Shoot me the hex values, e.g. #FFCC00.

Okay i think we should change the background color of the webpage to black #000000

Then have the strips that say "User Cp,FAQ,Member list,Calender, ext" be white

#FFFFFF

Then have the text be a dark blue #0033CC

If anyone else has any input an easy way to get the hex code is to go here

hex

Spell checker (two variants out, both fairly easy to install):

If you haven't registered there, go through vbulletin.com and it'll pull your user information in - they want your valid license number or you can't access the modifications.

Bear in mind you can create a new style set - and have the two 'designs' user-selectable. That way the people that want a darker background can have it, and those preferring a white one, can have that also.
