I'm trying to decide between these 2 amps for my setup. I'll be using factory batt+2 C&D deep cycles, factory 120a alt, 1 run of each neg & pos 1/0, and I plan to grab one of those MLA modules later on. This is for a daily setup and I need at least 2000 daily for my 18".

Both are used. The MD3D is the '06 version, and the MA has been modded to play @1ohm. I've searched about both, but I'm still kind of undecided. Both are within $25 of each other price wise. I know the MA would give me more headroom for later, but would also draw way more current. The MD is underrated, but would only give me exactly what I wanted power-wise, so no headroom really.

it's up to you guys. Tell me what to get

go with the headroom, and dont drop the volts too low on the HK until you get the right voltage for it then give it hell

The MA will do .4 ohm easy...I used to have s sponsorship from them.

I ran 4 daily for a while. Great amps and tons of power. A buddy still runs one on at stock electrical S-10 at 3 ohm. Thing beats the hell out of his DD 15s. 152.3db last we checked on the TL

I was gonna run it at 1 ohm, but whats it do @4ohms? That is an option I never thiught of

It'll do about 1800rms at 4 ohms with 14.4v...I had a few of the hk2000d's. I loved them, they never ever got hot, even when I put them under a lot of stress. Great amps imo.

Hmm.... I may just run the bastard @4ohms until I upgrade my electrical. Hell 1800 is about what I get now out of my amp @14v.

HK will run great at 14V if you drop it down lower then 2 ohm it will **** the juice. I had one running 1.5 ohm in a geo storm with stock electrical. I could burp it but on daily it would be crazy as long as I was not sitting around. It would cut out from lack of voltage.

wouldn't make that much difference, you get maybe 200 more watts (approx. 2000) with 17v. So even if you have anything in between 14.4 to 17v, you won't notice a significant difference. They are pretty power hungry amps though (current hungry that is). Make sure u're running some good quality wires, and have an upgraded battery at the least. An upgraded alt wouldn't hurt either.

If you run this at 4 ohm and then do your alt/bat setup you could drop it to what ever you need to.

If you do a 16V(I know you won't) then you will need a 16V turn on as well.

If you run the amp down to 2 ohm you can do stock alt setup but the amp does like current. Also there is a huge difference in power in ohm load and voltage. I did my test on a TL. Everyone else..well do your own test and see. Do what ever you need. They are both good choices. You can not go wrong.

A daily system does not need more then 1500W to a sub(s). Just make a good box and tune it right. The rest is down hill.

Yeah if you're going to change the ohm load then the voltage matters more but I was saying if you're going to keep it at lets say 4 ohms for a while, the change in voltage won't make a Significant difference, a difference yes, but not a significant one. If you do change the ohm load it will make a significant difference.

I'm going to run it at 4ohms until I get a MLA module to help with my volt drops, and then I'll try 1ohm daily. I only really need about 3000@1ohm daily, so with 14v it should do about that shouldn't it?
