McIntosh MC4000m, active or passive?

Hi guys..

I just have my setup installed. The amp is McIntosh MC4000m, front/rear speakers are Focal KRX2 (passive) and two of JL W1V3 subwoofer. So far I am satisfaied with this setup which produce rich and clear sound and no noise. It gives "analogue" feeling and I really love it. But a friend of mine suggest I should add any processcors like Audison BitOne or Alpine H800 into the setup to make sound even better. What do you guys think about it? Which one is better using active or passive crossover?? I'm not sure whether will lose its characterisics when run through active processor..

An improvement to the sound is going to depend on how well the processor is set up and tuned. BitOne and H800 both offer far more control over the speakers than the passive crossovers.

Thanks for your answer.. But please correct me if I'm wrong, my hypothesis is in order to produce true musicality / lifelike / warm sounding, there shouldn't be any "intervention" in between main equipments. So the signal has not been digitally processed, then music with emotion could be deliver through speakers. Does it make sense?? I have to admit that as far as I have auditioned the system with processor which has been claimed as great or perfect by a very famous caraudio dealers in my country I dont feel that much lifelike or musicality like the simple system with hi-end equipment without processor. Or analogue sounding doesn't match with digital processors?? Does anybody has the same experience?? Please advise ..

In a car we cannot listen to just the speakers. Similar to how a room in your house affects the sound from your audio system as the music bounces off different surfaces, the car does the same except multiplied by an order of magnitude. Every surface is close enough to the speakers and our ears to affect the sound in positive and negative ways. The best digital signal processors give some much needed control to smooth out the response errors to try to make the music sound more to the truth of the source.

There is no single best solution, but many very successful car audio competitors and enthusiasts use DSP. In the home audio world an example of DSP is the JBL Synthesis sound systems. They are calibrated for a certain response curve at particular positions in the room.
