Maybe a dumb question?

The sub I have is rated at 375w rms (don't know the peak), would 500w rms from the amp be too much power? I know it's more wattage, but you know how some subs can actuallly handle quite more than what the spec sheet shows. Here's what I got.

Boston Acoustics G3 10 sub, dual 4 ohm wired to a 2ohm load in a sealed encl. w/ .7 air space

Alpine MRP-M500 mono amp, ran with 8ga Stinger amp kit.

Thanks/Rick

Yeah I used to have a Kicker S12L7 that I played at almost it's peak wattage instead of the rms, can't remember exactly how much extra I had goin to it, but it was close to the peak! It seemed to handle it just fine, but as for longetivity I'm not sure, since I didn't keep it that long. This sub I have now I def plan on keeping for a while so I want to make sure I'm treating it right, but at the same time get the most power I can! Now I do plan to go to a ported box, that won't make a difference on power handling, will it?

You're fine with that sub and amp combo. Any good quality speaker or subwoofer can handle more than RMS power for brief moments. How much more power it can take depends on build quality, how much it was over-engineered, and how clean the power is coming from the amp.

You can protect the sub by turning the gain down and turning the sub level down on the head unit.

so many things wrong with this bro..

1. he hasnt even said what amp he's running, so you cant say that sub and amp combo will work

2. the gain is NOT volume (feel like i've already said this a few times)

3. the g3 is an ok sub... but is not built to handle that much power (but once again, he still hasnt stated what amp he has, so cant know for sure)
