There is a question mark over whether the full range channels on the NX series amplifiers actually provide the rated power. I saw a test in a russian magazine showing about 65/100watts RMS output instead of claimed 100/200watts. If this is true, the Massive NX4 real power output is somewhere on the same level with Alpine MRX-F35, Alpine's the lowest end 4-channel amplifier. Some guys on forums posted from anecdotal experience that they don't believe NX amps do the rated power. It would be nice if some third party tested them to settle this.
For me though, the recommended fuse rating kind of gives it away. (
see here)There is no way you could do 4x200watts RMS at 2ohm with the recommended 40amp fuse. My PPI Phantom P900.4 can do 4x225watts RMS (verified in PASMAG review). It is one of the most efficient amplifiers, and it still comes with 75amps of fusing. Boston Acoustics 475 Class A/B amp comes with a 40amp fuse and it is rated for only 4x75watts RMS at 4ohm.
In addition, the NX amps are class A/B on full range channels, so they're more sensitive to overheating in sloppy installs. Because of this, it's a bad idea to use Class A/B tech in a mini amp IMHO. I am not saying that this has to be necessarily a bad amp. It has low noise and low THD. It could be a treat for fans of Class A/B amplification. I could live with 65watts of power for my midbass, but ppl with big powerful midbass drivers could be disappointed. I have no idea about the other families of their amps.
So IMO, the new Alpine MRX series amps (F35, F65, V70) are just as good or better, and I bet massive can't touch the Alpine PDX series amps, specially the new ones. I would say go with Alpine.
