Hi I am going to be putting in a new stereo in my open bow speed boat this winter. Starting from stereo to speakers, subs and amps. Im not looking to enter any sound competitions nor be the loudest best sounding boat on the water. Basically what Im looking for is something that sounds good to my ears, (novice) and can be turned up to hear while cruising, with the occasional sand bar party volume.

He is what I have looked into so far, any ideas or tips/concerns would be appreciated.

Radio https://www.crutchfield.com/p_130X390BT/Pioneer-MVH-X390BT.html?tp=5684.

- I realize its only 2v pre outputs, I don't understand powered outputs to begin with. Nor is it marine rated. But what Ive researched, marine rated isn't a necessity on these if they are out of the elements of which mine is. And id rather replace a few cheap ones then buy an over rated expensive one??

Speakers: https://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_112435_Polk-Audio-MM651UM-Special-Edition-Black.html

-I would run 4 speakers. 2 in captain/co-captains location, 2 in rear bench seat. I know they are not JL or wetsounds as everyone recommends. But again im not looking for an insane system.

Amp for those im looking at either a Sundown sax, or https://www.rocktheboatmarinestereo.com/cgi-bin/cart2.cgi?action=link&product=62775&uid=501000

Subs; Im up in the air about, Id really like a couple of sundown 10s or 8s. However I am not sure what materials they are made of or could handle a marine environment. I have considered the polk mm series for this as well pushed by an unknown amp. Maybe https://www.rocktheboatmarinestereo.com/cgi-bin/cart2.cgi?action=link&product=80236&uid=501000

Im pretty lost as where to locate the subs as well. Currently it has 2 8" orions in a bandbass box in the engine compartment. While this area has the most space, it is also where I would like to store boat related items, and I also feel as if it is muffled a lot in this location. My other option would be mount them in the rear bench seat, either pointed out towards bow of boat, or under the seat firing up.

So hopefully there is someone on here with marine experience that could point me in the right direction!!

Thanks Brad

decent 6.5 coaxials

Sundown sd-3 in some fiberglassed(inside and out) marine grade wood enclosure.

Should just about do you.

The issue with open bow is there is no real good place for a sub.

That might give you some ideas.

Why would you do the polk dp over the mm series?

Seems like a decent amp as far as output. Havent heard of them before.

I like your sub locations, I don't think putting a box in the aisle way to bow would work so well for me with kids being 1&3. I have thought about putting them in the footwells in front of captians chairs and passenger. Did you build a box for them on the back side?

Because ive heard the polk. PPI=Precision Power. They've been around forever, most their amps are junk but the phantom series is good.

Not my boat actually but yes, you would have a fully enclosed box essentially firing into your seat. Ideally in a closed bow boat, you'd fire it into the bow and get a horn effect but thats why open bows are so tricky.
