Marine Plywood for woofer box

haha.

cos i'm helping out a friend who's doing up a full SQ install and we're experimenting with everything we can to have that " edge".

so if it works out for him, i'm gonna try it out myself.. haha

if the wood is too much of a hassel, i'll stick to MDF.. hahaha

The important thing in building a box is rigidity and density. The latter more than the former. You could always brace it so that the rigidity is up to par, but in order to increase density you have to double up and what not. Find out what that "Marine Ply" is made out of. (What kind of wood) and research that wood, see how dense it is compared to MDF, Trupan, Birch, etc. I believe Birch is the most dense out of the three before it.
ok this isn't a stab at you just because I don't like you, just an education so don't take it wrong.

if you know anything at all about wood then you know that statement is not entirely true or even close to it at all. compare a piece of oak to ash, ash is more dense and looks very similar to oak but they dont use it as much because it is inconsistent in its density. now compare a 2" x 2" x 2' (foot) piece of pine vs oak, the pine is very light and has very little density (it is soft) where the oak outweighs it by alot and is extremely dense (and very hard) , it is also very rigid and hard to bend where the pine will bend easily. so using that test just to make the point easy to understand, less density = less rigid and more density = more rigid. the 2 go hand in hand so you cannot ever have 1 without the other where wood is concerned, otherwise they would make cabinets out of cheap pine and laminate it with a hardwood veneer and save 1000's of dollars. they use the hardwoods because the density of the wood makes them far more rigid.

as for the OP's question: I have never seen marine ply use anything but softwoods (doesn't mean they do not) that are treated with chemicals and waterproofers ect. so it would not normally make a good choice. but if it is really cheap and you are not using it for a massive box give it a try it might work well. you never know.
