Marine Plywood for woofer box

Hi guys,

Has anyone tried using Marine Ply for their enclosure?

i'm was looking for birch wood down here but cant seem to find it, but i can get hold of marine ply.

just would like some feedback

I wouldnt use ply try finding mdf, medite, or high density particle board.

thats why folks use birch. because of the density.

i'm not talking about normal ply wood, this is marine ply and it weighs a ton.

guys says its water proof and extremely hardy.

I've always used MDF cos its easy to machine and relatively cheap, but just taking a look at other materials

guy at the shop said there are some DIY pple using it to make spkrs boxes.

so just need some input from u guys

weight isn't the issue. it's density. if it's pine i wouldn't use it. but i'm no professional at this.

all marine ply is, is ply that is treated. Example pressure treated 2X4 weighs more than a regular 2X4 at the same dimensions

The important thing in building a box is rigidity and density. The latter more than the former. You could always brace it so that the rigidity is up to par, but in order to increase density you have to double up and what not. Find out what that "Marine Ply" is made out of. (What kind of wood) and research that wood, see how dense it is compared to MDF, Trupan, Birch, etc. I believe Birch is the most dense out of the three before it.

marine ply means voidless inner plys, it can be a bunch of different woods...

most likely it is either baltic birch or poplar ply

regular birch ply can have a shit load of voids in it depending on where you get it from...

thats why i use only baltic birch

some of those plys in bad birch plywood's isnt even birch, alot of the time lumber yards have 13 pky "birch plywood" that is made up of all pine plys and a birch veneer on the two outer plies
