Man mistakes son for turkey.....shoots and kills him

whats sad is these poor guys having to live with a kid that looks like a turkey.

Not anymore.

QFT

Why the hell don't these people take 2 seconds to see what's behind that bush before shooting at it?
Because when you are hunting you have to use all your senses. I have killed a lot of game by relying on "sound shots." You can't be timid when it is man against nature. Especially if it is close to the end of the season.

did he not have any orange?
You don't wear orange turkey hunting.

9 year olds should not be hunting...I blame this on society as a whole.
I hunted when I was 9.

This was just a stupid mistake by the father. 1. He shouldn't have left his kid alone to go shoot a turkey. 2. He shouldn't have shot if he couldn't tell what he was shooting at.

I feel bad for the family. The dad will have to live the rest of his life knowing that he killed his son all because of his carelessness.

That's strange because deerhunt is more of a jackass than he is a turkey.
I wonder if the father will stuff him and hang him on a wall.
personally, id go with a full body mount. i mean, how often are you gonna get the chance to shoot a 9-yr old.
You 2 are killing me here. My side hurts.

I do not see how it is possible to mistake a person for a turkey. A gobbler will be black, with a red/white/blue head. His son should have been fully camouflaged. Complete and utter ignorance on the father's part. How did he not know it was a hen turkey he was shooting at, which would be illegal?

One thing that has always bugged me about hunting turkeys is the behavior of other turkey hunters. It is amazing how a gobbling turkey can make 'Posted' signs disappear, and that vehicle you saw at the gate hunting not matter.

I had a guy shoot a turkey out from under me this year. I had worked the bird 2 1/2 hours and had him within range once, but didn't offer me a clean shot. Someone ends up shooting the bird RIGHT OUT IN FRONT OF ME, and I heard shot going all around me. The guy knew I was there, heard me calling, and saw my vehicle. I could have lost a ****ing eye.
