ok so i got a new Hu and a dash kit. I can slide by HU in the dash kit but for the life of me cant figure out how to lock it into the dash kit. i feel such like an idiot. any help? unit is a deh p4000ub if that helps

Yeah, before you slide in the HU you need to bend in the long tab on each side of the cage inward. Then slide in the HU and it will lock.

well the headunit came in a metal sheath, im assuming the cage, that it clicked into on the side. I jsut cant figure out how to attach that to the plastic dash kit. it slides in but i dont see any locking mechanism

is there any tabs that are on the side or top of the unit?

the cage has extensions that you are supposed to bend behind the plastic piece to hold it in place

i did that but they didnt line up perfectly so its held in but loose. should i glue it in place?

theres multiple tabs on that cage...i own the same one...just bend them all in and it should stay.

do i need to solder the wires or is twist n tape enough

i have these wires left:

power antenna

dash light/allumination

dimmer ground

amp turn on

then on the head unit one i have system remote control which is a plug type of thing i think

and can i chain grounds? ie can i jus solder all the ground together? and can i use if there is one the ground that the stock hu used?

i think that you can chain the ground together but im not sure

take them to make sure they don't have a connection to anything, the remote is + so if it ground out your deck is fxd

no what i mean is should i solder then tape or just tape? like is the solder worth the extra effort?

and also what do i do with all the leftover wires?

do not twist and tape, that's the cheapest way to do it, use butt connectors or wire nuts even.

Soldering is a good way also if you know how. be sure to tape the mess outta those things though.
