Making a template for material to cover your door holes

If you don’t have the proper material to make a template to cut out the material that’s gonna cover the holes in your doors, is Saran Wrap a decent choice or is there a quicker and cheaper transparent material?

wax paper, and i mostly see cardboard used. doesnt have to be transparent
