Magnet cut out?

I am trying to get extra depth in my truck box and was wondering if I could cut out a section where the magnet of the subs comes in contact with the back of the box? I would then replace that small section with something like 1/4in to seal it up.

I was thinking of routering a 1/4 lip then glueing in the 1/4in board.

Have others done this?

Why do you want to put another piece of wood back after you rout it out? You just will make it useless.
I want to cut the hole then route a lip on the back of the box. Then basically plug that hole with 1/4in piece of wood. So I essentially gain 1/2 mounting depth becasue the box would be made out of 3/4.

Ok so the box is made already? It looks like you have it figured out. Personally I would just make a new box. You can also make a ring for the sub to sit on to take away some depth. Seems easier that way IMHO.

I cant go any bigger than 8" Depth on bottom and 6" depth on top of my box. Thats my constraints behind the seat. That gives me about 6 1/2" mounting depth on a 10" sub. I wanted to have 7" mounting depth sub JL10W6v2. If I cheated the magnet into the back wall some I could fit it I think.

I have never done this so I just wanted to see if others have and how it worked out.
