Magic Smoke?

If the amp is drawing less current than the length of 4awg is rated for, absolutely nothing at all.
So is it a problem or not. I have an extra battery and some 8 ga wire I can test out of the car with. I don't have a remote wire however. Could I use the + of the battery for the + input and the remote. What could I use out of the car as a ground?

The amount of current a wire can safely pass without dropping voltage too much or heating up is based on not only the cross-sectional area, but also its length.

That's why the NEC specifies wire lengths in their current tables //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

how did you attach the 0 guage to the amp? thats gotta be a big connector, maybe it touched the positive?
I am thinking that the 0 ga somehow arced to the positive. I didn't see and my ex gf who was over is an idiot and said she saw a spark near the terminals. The thing is, I don't see any black on the terminals, inside the terminals, etc. The smoke seemed to be coming from under the amp. (the guts are mounted face down)

It worked just fine when both were 4 ga. I built an amp rack and the wire was too short. I had some excess 0ga and used that. The terminals are rated from 8ga - 0 ga.

hey jus a //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif my MD2 did the same thing as what yours is doing now. I shorted the amp out by way of the speaker wires touching the amp. It went into protect like yours. then when i turned the car off and then back on my fuse popped(the one from the batt). the power supply was blown and i had to send it in to US Amps for repair

look in the amp where the positive comes in,there should be a black diode between the psitive and ground,i bet that diode is shot, when it blows it creates a dead short, ive fixed amps before that have done this, its kinda like a protection diode.

The fuses that popped for me are on the amp. How much is the repair?

I don't really see anything like that. Pics should be uploaded soon.

free except shipping there. warranty ftw.
but if you dont have a warranty, and it is jus that diode you should be able to fix it yourself.
I bought it from flakko in July. I hope this is a warrenty issue. I really hope that nothing is broke. I am just afraid to retest it.
