Bought JL 500/1 with no Serial numbers

Trying to decide how bad this is. Ordered an amp from ebay as "new" and it appears new but has no serial numbers on the box or the bottom panel of the amp. ahhhh. No warranty now.

So why would a company strip off the serial numbers? My guess is gray market/diversion. They get it super cheap from an authorized dealer and then strip the serial numbers so it can't be traced back to the dealer when it's sold. The amp does NOT appear to be counterfeit and I'm assuming this "super seller" is not dealing stolen items.

Anyone have any insight into this?

I'm trying to send it back now so I can order a new one that has serial numbers from somewhere else. If I ever want to even pay JL to do work on it, I'm guessing a lack of serial numbers will kill that idea...

Everything I have bought from onlinecarstereo dot com has had the numbers removed. I believe all online unauthorized dealers do this. I never have a problem with this as I was aware of it before I ordered.

I bought a JL sub in the classifides here, same thing, no s/ns. I was worried to then learned it was from an unauthorized dealer (same one GrnEydDvl mentioned).

My rationale is that I don't get a warranty but I paid less than half the retail price. I take care of my things and they aren't likely to break. I'm willing to take the gamble of no warranty for half the price.

I haven't seen for myself, but JL claims to put its serial numbers in hard-to-reach locations. Basically, you'd have to disassemble one of their subs to get to the serial, and if an unauthorized dealer gets to the label and removes it, they also often put the sub back together incorrectly before reselling. Not sure if it's true, could all be hearsay.

That being said, I've bought from unauthorized retailers before and have yet to have a real problem.

I think that's bullshit, they woulnd't have time for that

I could see the seria number is on the outside of the sub, I can see part of it still, like a sticker that was peeled off

*shrug* it's what they say on their website.

IMPORTANT WARNING, BUYER BEWARE!:Many unauthorized retailers attempt to remove factory serial numbers in order to avoid detection. In the process, the product's ability to reliably reproduce sound is often compromised. We have seen numerous instances of speakers that have been sliced open and improperly re-glued, amplifiers that have been improperly re-assembled, etc.
They're a reputable company, so I wouldn't doubt it. They earn their money and unauthorized internet sales are likely doing just a very small dent in their bottom line.

the headunit i bought from onlinecarstereo had all the serial numbers on it, warrenty card ect..on both the head unit and the removable screen. dont break the amp simple solution //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
