The bolded part is exactly why I am switching. I could go with 1 BM and I would be happy, but even that is 2 cubes and if the new Mag v4 sounds better, is within a few dBs and takes less than half the space, I am going to be extremely happy. I know I have made some outrageous statements and that was my bad, I am just really excited to get this sub and get better SQ and more "trunk" space in my Jimmy.I'm not in a hurry anymore. I kinda want to hear peoples opinion on the output before I make my decision. I still prefer SQ over SPL, and 90% of the time I listen to my music it is at low volume levels. I just like the option of turning it up when I want and I'd like to see how it does in output before I go and buy 2 of them.
The old mag sounds almost perfect for what I want, in that it sounds good and accurate at low volumes but can still thump when needed. I'd just rather buy them new, and since he's not manufacturing them anymore, I'll just have to wait and see I guess.
I almost want to buy a pair just to hear what no distortion sounds like. I've hearing reviews that people that are used to distortion might not like it and I want to hear the difference myself. The only 2 subs I've ever used are 2 audiobahn's and I immediately switched to 2 BM's and I like the BM's alot compared. If there is that big of an SQ improvement from the old BM to the new Mag, then I probably will need to buy a couple.
It might be worth losing a bit of output to gain trunk space anyways. My current setup requires 4 cubes, and it leaves maybe a foot behind the speakers to put things. Having the extra 2 feet there would be killer. Hard decisions...
Nick gets an A+ in customer service from me. Just know there was a person on this forum that totally smoked a pair of BMs, blew the coils and even broke the spider from abuse, he way over powered them. Nick heard about this and sent him SI's last new 12" BM and a slightly used BM to replace the broken ones the scammer sent him.I also wanted to add that if SI's customer service is anything like Jake's at sundown, I'll be buying a pair just for that. Gotta love an owner that loves his customers, and not just the money.
What 02parkave said. I can't help it if you read things into my comments that weren't there. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gifI think that perhaps this train of thought is why the t/s parameters were not released initially. Spec wise its not the same as the old mag, but I think he wants people to here it first before writing it off as being "not as good".
Yea, it isn't the best naming choice he could have made, but since he is only having 2 sub lines I believe he felt that since the Mag will still be his top-of-the-line sub he would stick with that name. What 02parkave said. I look at it like the Chevy Impala. The Impala of today is nothing like the original Impala, but it has the nostalgic name for brand recognition. Usually when a new model of a speaker comes out with the same model name, the design intent is left the same. It would be like Kicker coming out with a new round cone ultra-SQ subwoofer next year, and calling it Solo X.
And yet the new Mag is being marketed as vastly improved over the old one in SQ. That's a very thin line to walk in terms of marketing. Are we forgetting that the Mag as always been a player in SQ? They just refined it, enhancing one aspect while lessening another
I am in 100% agreement here, I keep begging him to bring back the old Mag to no avail.I think its pretty obvious he should have kept the old version of the Mag around as well. Its not like the market was over saturated with them... alot of people are unhappy BECAUSE the new Mag isn't like the old one. To me that spells oops. *shrug*
I mean this as no disrespect, I sincerely hope this new speaker takes off for nick. I just think its hard breaking into the 'ignore the specs, 16mm xmax is plenty just listen to it' market when your main advertising is spec-nerds on the internet boards. Again, imho the old Mag should have stayed in production, if that was feasible.
I also have to add that I only see a very small portion of the whole picture that Nick and SI see. Maybe the Mag sales numbers were way down, or the production costs were about to double or something, I dont know. I just see alot of people unhappy the old Mag is gone.I am in 100% agreement here, I keep begging him to bring back the old Mag to no avail.
Yea, I don't know the answer to any of those questions, lol. All I can say is I believe Nick is more of an SQ guy than an SPL guy and wanted to make a SQ driver he would like. I do know why he is only doing 12" drivers, they are by far what he sold the most of. Either way I would be going for the Mag v4 even if the v3 was still available. I would consider a Mag v3 for a home theater install.I also have to add that I only see a very small portion of the whole picture that Nick and SI see. If the old Mag was still in production, alot these guys bitching in this thread would instead be falling all over themselves touting this new SQ driver from their favorite manufacturer. This market is one fickle whore.
haha and none of their pages will load for me. I knew I should have stayed up last night and checked it out. Oh well I can't order anything from work anyways. Hopefully they will be up by 6 or so when I get home.Pre-Order open
