just got a macbook yesterday..kinda getting use to it..but can't figure out how to install windows media player..or maybe i dont need to and i just need a program to convert files to quicktime?

also what is good to download music...besides itunes, that wont kill my computer.

firefox over safari? i used firefox on my pc, wondering how it is compared to safari..thanks guys

Safari is decent, but I hated the number of pop-ups it let through. My GF finally gave me the go ahead to load Firefox on her computer this last weekend after she was fed up w/ Safari and she seems to like it better.
I loaded Opera on as that's what I use on all my PCs, but it's just not the same in OS X. For one, mouse gestures obviously don't work w/ the lack of right click and, even w/ right-click enabled on the Mighty Mouse, the right-click sucks *** ... Two, it's slow as molasses on the Mac whereas it's ultra-quick on my PCs.

Oh, also, printer sharing between Macs and PCs sucks so much *** ...

As for downloading music, I just installed Azureus and use torrents.to ...

If you don't like Safari look into Camino, its much better than FireFox IMO.

For printer sharing did you use Bonjour? It makes the process pretty simple as the sharing issues normally arise due to Windows.

Azureus is a huge resource hog, if you don't need all the features get Bits on Wheels, works very well and doesn't take over your computer.

No, I didn't use Bonjour or any program ... Just good old-fashioned hair-pulling, swearing, and keyboard-smashing until it worked ...
My GF has been using Azureus on her PC for years, so she's comfortable using it. At this point, I don't really care if there's something better out there as long as she knows hot to use it and it works, that's good enough for me.

I (she) might give Camino a shot ... I really wish Opera for Mac was better, though ... It's so weird not having mouse gestures, the wand, built-in IRC client, built-in bittorrent, built-in mail client, etc. I know you can get all those things for Firefox, but they always make it an unreliable resource hog.

My version of Opera for OS X has all those things

I got a program called Stuffit Expander. its so i can unpack winRAR files. its a free download, you just submit email and u get a download link.

I was going to buy a macbook when leopard came out, but bought a 12.1" xps instead.

well, the duo processors do run pretty hot. but you said heat was stable. so that weird. maybe they designed that iMac around the updated new OS X leopard...

honestly jmac id send it back and request a brand new iMac. obviosuly there s something wrong with that unit....actually wait til leopard comes out and then request a new iMac hehe. free upgrade ftw!

yeah. atleast apples warranty is pretty dam good. they replaced my superdrive with no questions asked
