Okay, so I wired my M6MKII10d2 at 1 ohm on my viper d1200.1.

The output isn't very high at all it seems, and after setting my gains with my dmm, it's as if.. it will be very quiet, then I turn up the gains a little and it's 10x louder but distorts.

Should I wire this sub series instead?

I have the 12 inch version of that sub. They just do not get that loud especially if they are sealed. Is yours in a sealed or ported box? The mechanical power handling is great but you have to be careful as to not burn up the coil. In other words you can play it for a while way above the thermal power handling without the suspension/motor making any noises then all of a sudden the coil will toast.

I would try it in a low tuned ported box and wire it so that it does not get anymore than 500-800 watts.

Try your DMM with a normal rap cd instead of a test tone, the voltage will jump around but you can get a better idea of how high to set the gain for musical purposes. Those test cd's are good but how often does your sub see a 40hz signal recorded at 0db's for 10 seconds.

True if you are not careful but using both wisely you can reach a nice meeting point. Using a dmm and a test cd which I have done many times works but your sub will never reach its full potential unless you are playing a test cd. Plus the dmm usually only helps you with protecting against the thermal rms and not mechanical which is box dependent. Most subs can take a good amount over their thermal rms if it is for short bursts and not long peroids of time as long as you are not banging the motor which is box/power dependent.
