Lowering tuning of box

Is there a way to lower the tuning of my sub box port without tearing the box apart. Here are the stats:

29W x 17.5H x 17.5D.

It has a 4.5" slot vent thats tuned around 45ish. It has a bend but im not sure how long it is. The box is in my car with the sub still in it. But that doesnt matter regardless of that im wondering if I can just add more wood to the inside of the vent slot and the length of the box say 2" of wood to make the 4.5" opening a 2.5" opening if that will effectively lower the tuning without messing with the total port length.. Hopefully you understand what I am talking about after I read this back it sounds a bit confusing but I know the bassheads will get what im saying.. I hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

i would add a layer of mdf and test if it lowers it and sounds good leave it if its not low enough add another layer be careful though not to make the layers permanent untill you get what you want taking away port area may cause port noise and reduced output

If you have ample space in front of the port you can always extend the port outside of the box.

i wouldnt reduce port area if possible, id try adding an MDF extension to the outside of the box if you had room

Yea you are really close. How much to make me one for a single T5-15. It will go in a 2004 Impala so im kinda limited to about 32Wx17Hx18D. I would want the width to actually be 32 so I can take up that whole back pocket but the H & D can be lowered if need be. 3ish cu.ft tuned to somewhere maybe 29-33hz. (I like the sustained loooows). Thats just what im thinking but your the box guy so if you know something different will work let me know.. So what ya think. Def no shipping is a plus. I'll just take a nice quick road trip..
