One of the main reasons I am attracted to my wife is her level of intellect. One of the few women I have ever met that can hold a conversation with me for hours on end and not once ask me what something I just said means (excepting, of course, any colloquialisms I might employ that as an Aussie she's simply never been exposed to...)

Having no mechanism other than talking will quickly teach you whether or not you're able to communicate well with one another well. If you can't? You're doomed from the start...
