Loudness - Anyone use this feature?

I had a previous thread about my sub not having enough punch/thump to it. Well I have been playing around with alot of settings and different tunes. I turned alot of shit down like bass level, sub/bass on my HU and turned BBE off. The bass was there but nothing you could feel. I then turned loudness on and my sub instantly started hitting hard. It was just what I wanted. Although it sounds good on some songs, it doesn't sound so good on others. I am still trying to fine tune it.

Anyone else use Loudness on their HU and know how to use it efficiently?

I bought the P880PRS and had it installed. I think the installer was fascinated by all the features of the deck. When setting it up he turned on loudness, adjusted the BBE to +4, and he turned on this BMX thing which has four settings. Well, after turning all that crap off and resetting my gains I am MUCH happier with my sound. And even at peak I get NO distortion now. Suffice it to say that I do not suggest using loudness. If you have a parametric or graphic EQ use it to tune your sound. If I am not mistaken loudness just boosts the low and high frequencies quite a bit.

At low volume levels there is NOTHING wrong with loudness. It adds to the upper and lower end of the music spectrum, which is usually needed for things to sound dynamic at lower levels. As volume increases, however, the hearing curve levels out quite a lot, making it sound just about the same whether it's on or off. Furthermore, at high volume levels it can lead to clipping.

I avoid it. One thing alpine always did and I always felt they shouldn't was talka bout MediaXpander as some amazing restoration process by which mp3s sound more like the real thing now. Bullshit. Mx is simply loudness.

You know I have read that it leads to distortion on this forum. I have a Kenwood Excelon and I use the loudness. This has not been the case for me at all. Distortion is not tolerated in my system. I do tend to keep my gains a tad lower than I could set them at. I run -3 bass level on my HU and adjust acordingly. Like I said even a high volumes I have no distortion. So it works for me.

I use the loudness feature on my Pioneer HU, but I put it on MED and it sounds great. Mind you I dont turn up the vol past 40 (out of 65).
