Louder? Setup change to a single 12"

Currently running 2 12" 400 watt rms subs at a little over rated, in 3 cubes sealed in the trunk. Soon to be running a custom single 12" (recone kit by SPLaudio) on about 1500 rms in approx 2 cubes ported, tuned low, 30 to 32Hz.

Basically it'll save some space, and be more ****** looking, plus it's time for a change.

Think I can get louder while retaining decent sq off the single 12?

Yes, I know there are many many variables, but have a guess, ask some questions if need be.

Cheers.

Currently running Pioneer tsw309s, yeah they aren't really a good woofer but good enough to learn plenty about car audio on anyway.

The custom recone will be based off a Soundstream T4 12 motor and basket.

I have always ran a single 12" sub with around 1500 rms since I was 16 HAHHA

I have ran everything from an MTX 9500, DD 3512, Tc sounds LMS-R, etc.

All of the subs in the correct sized enclosure slammed and I had decent room left in the trunk

Good to hear! This will be the least cone area I've had with any setup, but if done right it'll hopefully be the loudest. Will probably be quite similar to when I had the Pioneers in a ported box, but will have way more room in the boot, and now that the boot is sound deadened that has helped. Still want to be able to kill lows though.

The custom single 12 in a ported box will walk all over your old setup. Those Pioneers have virtually no motor force or excursion compared to what splaudio will build you. Combine that with a much lower f3 that the ported box will give you over sealed. It will be a night and day difference.

My systems already louder than all of my mates, just due to the install actually being done well. Should be a good laugh for them to find a single 12 in the boot. The only problem will be the temptation to sell it, I could get so much more for it over here than the total build will cost including motor and basket etc.

That's awesome! I wouldn't be able to support that electrically even if the sub was built to that.

Some of his work that I've seen is pretty insane, especially the 10s and other small subs. Unfortunately I need to use a small gap coil with this recone as there isn't much space in there. Will be a very tight fit as it is, no room for error and it's my first ever recone.

You'll be very happy with a single 12" setup...crowd pleaser too when everyone thinks your running 2 12s or a couple 15s and you pop the trunk and there's only a 12" in there lol. I've only ran single 12" setups and they have been MORE than enough for me..they include SSA Icon, IA Deathrow, and SI Mag Claw. Put that baby in the right enclosure, sound deaden the trunk and you'll be stupid loud and sound great doing it!

I would like to see what he can do with that woofer because I have a blown one sitting in the garage. Thought about getting it reconed.

I'll let you know how it goes, it's fairly cheap to do but I am doing the recone myself, he's putting together the kit for me.
