Louder?...2-10's ported or 2-12's sealed?***

yes as much as sealed...

its a common misconception because so many people use improperly designed/built boxes. ported can retain SQ. like i said before, you cant put a high q woofer into a ported enclosure and expect it to sound good.

while this part of what i am about to say is admittedly highly subjective, but i actually prefer the sound of a ported enclosure. it doesnt sound as restrictive to the woofer. that is to say you get more punch/impact from it, more output, better lfe, and just as much sq as with sealed. at least thats always been my experience with boxes. use the right woofers and they can control themselves, instead of relying on the box to do the work, or in many cases over dampening them.

no bloody way!

maybe you listen to your music stoned or something?

cos thats the only logical explanation I can come up with!

ported boxes do not have the same SQ as sealed.

end of story.

I think whats more important rather than what box you use is what the woofer is designed for. Is it a highly damped woofer made to control itself in a ported box, or is it a low damped woofer designed to use a sealed boxes dampening for added control. Do you have a stong woofer with good inductance and a strong magnet structure, because it can be pretty 'tight' in a ported box, or pretty subdued in a sealed box. Or you can have an undermotered woofer sounding totaly sloppy in a ported box but 'tight' in the sealed box.

Personally I preffer low frequency extension over tightness anyway, and I am departing from the large sealed box with 12db roll-off for the extremely low tuned ported boxes with 18-24 db roll-off.

A) as said before it is a highly subjective debate

B) it is my honest oppinion that you are so influenced by what others tell you that you can't listen to your ears and form your own opinion.

in a blind test with properly designed boxes I HIGHLY doubt you would be able to differentiate which boxes were ported or sealed //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
