I'm thinking about buying two apline type x's and i was wondering what you guys think will get louder......2-10's ported or 2 -12's sealed?......i would want to go ported with 2-12's but i don't think i'll have enough trunk space....we'll see though....thanks guys...keep bumpin'....//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

Yeh theres a bunch of diff options and thing you could do to make either one louder.....ideally with the same amount of power and what not id like the 2 10s ported.

But i dont think theres a trunk that cant fit 2 12s ported....4cu is all youd need really.....got dimensions of ur trunk

What type of frequency response are you looking for? That will give you your answer.
im new at this and im not great at technical terms about subwoofer systems yet....what type of frequency response should i be looking for?....i know you can tune the frequencies on ported boxes when building it but what about sealed boxes?....does sealed box sizes change frequencies?.....correct me if im wrong...but you guys are way smarter when it comes to my questions than the guys down here in hawaii.....(we have a group of dudes down here that know what their doing...but for the most part....not really.).....thanks again guys:cool:

i don't know the dimensions of my trunk but i've seen some pre-fabed boxes that could fit my trunk....but fuc* that....haha....i should go see how much room i have to play with really....thanks guys.

I would do 2 12's sealed since I like to retain SQ. Plus they should be about as loud peak, and you don't have to be as concered with a tuning frequency, unless your building the box for 40 htz test tones or something.

11 replies and this is the only one that gives an informed reply to the question...

we cannot tell you which will be louder, it is entirely install dependant, and will vary from case to case with impedance shift, transfer function, install specifications, etc, etc...

immacomputer has given the only response you should be looking at IMO. and to give you more insight to what he is saying, tens ported are more likely going to sound louder, not neccisarily going to be louder, but will probably give you what you are looking for since you can control the low end extension better.

how is it going to "sound" louder but not be???????????????

you have much to learn //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

there is a difference between percieved loudness and actual loudness.

and in this case, i was refering to how an EBS type enclosure can fool you into thinking that it is louder because of the low end extension.
