My friend has a chevy colorado and I've been searching almost all day on this problem: on higher volumes, his speakers start to crack and a loud high pitched noise like a whine comes on and we cannot figure out what the cause is. I tried unplugging the RCA's on his 4 channel and turning up the volume and there is no noise when they're unhooked. First I checked the ground because that's originally what I thought the problem could be but then I figured since the RCA's are out and there's no noise, then that isn't the problem. Please help!

Something tells me your amp isn't tuned properly. Pulling too much gain can cause distortion at higher volume levels.
