loose dustcap???

what does a loose dustcap sound like??? my sub is make a werd like viberating sound an i brought it into ABT and they said that there were no blow v-coils or other problems with the sub. I wasnt there when they tested it and dont kno how loud they turned it up... the dustcap is that middle thing, usually circular with a logo on it. sometimes it spans the whole center of the cone too. dustcaps are glued onto the cone to cover the top of the voicecoil and its connections to the tinsel leads (the wires you can see comming out of the bottom of the cone if you look thru the side of the basket). if the dustcap is loose, it will have some sort of gap, or loose side somewhere, it shouldnt be hard to find it. just a few drops of superglue should solve that problem. make sure there are no air-holes or leaks in your box eaither - even if its ported, the only gap you want is the port-hole.

Yep req is on the right path I bet. An improperly sealed enclosure can make a sub seem to be making some odd noises.

If it was the dustcap, its right there in front and Id think someone (either you or the guy testing it at the shop) would have noticed it flapping.
