other than setting gain... what else can be done with the Oscilloscope?

hopefully next weekend the box will be built and everything installed so not next week but the week after we can fine tune my amp for the best performance

this is what i have to do to set gain correct?

have vehicle running

have one sub wire disconnected from amp

turn sub output on H/U to max setting

turn to 3/4 volume(approx the max where i would set it to)

(should i set the EQ to a setting that i usually use also?(usually have it set to rock... but sometimes to club setting for rap and stuff... more bass from that)

have a 0db test tone cd in and playing a tone within the range of what the sub will be playing

then use the OS to set the gain to the max before i see square waves(possibly turn back a little bit so not to risk clipping)

should be able to set the subsonic, and low pass also correct? as long as i am playing the correct tone of where i want the subsonic to be and where the low pass to be... anything else?

tis a hifonics bx1000d that i will be using connected to a re se 10

he also is rather inexperienced with this tool as there is usually not many problems with our own vehicles that require it.... so when i asked him about being able to use it to tune my amp he said sure cause he is always lookin for stuff to use it on

i looked at the jl tutorial before... and it says to set everything to 0.... so once i get the gain set right, and the subsonic(guess i just use the multimeter part and play say a 30hz track and turn the subsonic till the voltage drops to nothin and do the same for the low pass at around 100hz

so once all that is set should i not mess with the controls on the headunit at all? or only the ones that will not affect the amplifier? and not mess with the eq since just about every setting changes the bass in some way and just run a custom setting and adjust each Hz to my liking(except the ones that will be fed to the amp)

Those are just the two I have saved as favorites because Ive been looking at them for myself. But there are plenty of other o-scopes out there now for alot less than $1k.
I'm sorry, but if I am dialing in $5k worth of equipment, I am not going to trust a handheld "scope" to accuratly keep track of square wave.

To each his own though.

O'scope's are used for much, much, much more then setting amplifier sensitivity as well...

You judge quality by price?

I know what they are used for, not sure why you think I dont?

You said the cheapest scopes start at 2$-3k, I was showing you that's not true.

I know some pretty knowledgeable people in car audio with more money in their systems than you or I, that use those very "scopes" to set their equipment. But like you said, to each their own. *shrug*

One question: Do you know how to ise the full range of a bench scope? every feature...

lets put it this way ya'll.... yes it would be nice to own one but your not going to see one in every household as they are not the cheapest of things to buy and not everyone has a need for it

current question....

once the gain and filters are set with the HU at 0 everything(except have the sub output at the max) should i not mess with the controls on the headunit at all? or only the ones that will not affect the amplifier? or just not mess with the eq since just about every setting changes the bass in some way and just run a custom setting and adjust each Hz to my liking(except the ones that will be fed to the amp)
