Look at my plans, make suggestions

Hey all,

First of all, I'm just recently registered so I know the whole 07'er thing is going to kick me in the ***. I've been perusing the forums since about january but I'm not one that opens my mouth unless I have something worthwhile to say, hence the post count.

So on to the goods...This is my plan for my new-to-me 00' Lexus GS300.

Head Unit: Kenwood KDC-MP735U - Already purchased and installed

Front Components: Morel Hybrid Ovation 6" Variety

Front stage amp: Zapco DC350.2

Mostly for Digital Processing, cause I am a nerd and things like that interest me.

Subwoofer(s): Treo SSi.12 Deciding Between one or two. I'll probably start with one and if its not enough purchase a second.

Sub Amp: Zapco REF750

Ok so here's what I'm looking for. I'm trying to build a strictly SQ system. The majority of my music collection is jazz music, but occaisionally I spice it up with some rock. As shown I have planned on the Morel Ovation set because I have heard they retain a warm sound during high volume, and because I had a set of older Morels that I liked quite a bit. The rest is really open to discussion, if you think there is better please let me know. I chose the Zapco Amps because they are a trusted amp building company (at least that is what I'm told) and I like the idea of digital processing (I demo'd it about a week ago). The zapco amps seem a bit on the spendy side, but I guess you get what you pay for? Like I said, opinions are more than welcome. The sub, Treo SSi.12, again I demo'd one a few weeks ago and it sounded very good, but then again I haven't heard things like the FI Q or anything of that sort either ( Any Comparisons? I've searched for reviews of both, but no comparisons =( ).

If I end up with the Treo SSi.12 I am still deciding on whether or not I want to put it sealed or ported. I heard it ported, but I am curious as to how much cleaner it would sound in a sealed box...If I end up ported, I figure probably 3 or 3.5 cubes and a tuning of around 30 or 31hz unless someone has better input.

Last thing on the list is input about a rear stage. I had one in my last car, but they were just some cheapy coax's I bought at best buy or something for rear fill. I'm thinking if I have a good enough front stage, rear won't matter near as much. If this isn't true, can anyone give me a suggestion on a set of relatively cheap ($150 max) rear speakers?

As previously stated, SQ first loudness after.

Thanks for putting up with another newbie //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

A subwoofer can sound just as clean in a ported enclosure, it is all dependent on the space you are willing to spare and how loud you want it. try it sealed as you can purchase a sealed enclosure for dirt cheap. Experiment with polyfill, if its not loud enough for you then port it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Everything else looks good, but i must ask, if your going for SQ, why not go active? im about to in my setup. From what ive heard, its a night and day difference. Youll never go back to passive. You can buy morel drivers at parts express too...

First of all, Thanks for the response!

To be honest I never really considered going active. If it's such a night and day difference perhaps I'll look into it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for drivers? I haven't really branched into the active setup too much so any help would be appreciated. Like I said, I'm looking for a warm sound.

What else would I need if I was going active? Would I be able to run my front stage off of just the 4 channel zapco amp, and just have no rear fill?

Obviously I see the advantages of having a 3 driver system, but that seems like it would exponentially more expensive...3 drivers would require at least 2 amps, no? The reason I had settled on the morel's is because I was going to get them at a relatively good price in town, but If I do decide to go active I would have no idea where to start...

So let me recap on the active setup deal, I would need:

Mid-bass Driver x2

Mid-range Driver x2

Tweeter x2

Some form of Active Crossover

2 Amps - 1 for midbass/midrange and 1 for tweeters?

Anyone with any suggestions on how I should approach this?
