Local Shop Wants $280.00 just to re-wire my car

So if you had a storefront with overhead and expenses you'd charge some clueless guy who walks in only $100 to re-wire his car for equipment he bought elsewhere?

Think about it.

Honestly you either have to fork over the $$$, or **** it up and do it yourself. There's no time better then the present to learn, and if/when something goes wrong you'll be able to troubleshoot it yourself.

There's nothing very technical about what your'e doing and plenty of guys on here who will help/offer advice.

I say this based on a member who just paid BIG bucks for an install because he wasn't confident enough to attempt it. 4 weeks later he ripped it all out and re did it himself, and now it's done right...

There's probably already a basic "walkthrough" on amp installs if you search.

I'd charge you $100 hr, just for whining!!!!!!!!!!!!

dude you are thinking way too much in to this. atleast do the runs from the battery to the back. if youre scared to run the wire from the deck have them do that and your ground wire its very simple and if you do it yourslef its much funner

i barely knew anything bout car audio not too long ago and i jus installed everything myself with no problems, its not that hard jus take your time and ask questions if you need.

Step 1-Quit whining

Step 2-Next time you buy a system, if you don't plan on doing it yourself leave money in your budget to pay someone else.

Step 3-Do the smart thing, go to this board's "Area" forums. Post what you need done and I'm sure someone will do it for half the price.

x2 if not more.

if you dont know what your doing. its going to take them 1/4 of the time to do it then it will you. plus if something breaks its on them not you. that alone will save you money if you did it and broke something.

This car is easy to take apart, Mike. Seriously, 8thcivic couldn't have it laid out any simpler. The only problem you're going to run into is the fact that you're going to HAVE to drill a hole in the firewall to pass the wire through. I can see not feeling comfortable about that; so take the car to a shop (auto shop) and ask them to drill you some holes. Then run the wire yourself.

I still think 2 runs of 0 gauge is overkill. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Oh, and to Hemo for the comment about it being a ricer forum for every Civic; that's true. But, at least the audio section isn't near as bad as it is here. "Dude, I got 5 type-r's that will hit 3300 debeeeeeeeeeeeezzzz."

they jacked the price up cause u brought your own parts. Normally, they provide the wires, which they purchase for pennies on the dollar since they buy in bulk. The bill actually reflects higher cost for the parts and lower cost on labor, so the labor fee doesnt look so bad.

If you bring your own parts, they still need to make their money, so they jack up the labor cost (at least you see what they're really making) and theres also no warranty (well maybe labor) since YOu provided the parts.

It's called "markup" and popular in all of business. Everybody has markup - the auto technician who charges $200 for a part and $125 labor, probably purchased the part for $5... thats $320 for his labor. The reason for this is simple. If he provided an estimate to the customer that says its a $5 part and $320 labor, the guy would never authorize the repair. Fortunately for mechanic, most people are oblivious when it comes to mechanics and they can legally work this. This happens EVERYWHERE.

Short business lesson for you guys that don't know.

and even with what seem to be high prices, those are actually todays market prices.

Nobody is making $300/hour there. They pay for overhead costs, end up making next to nothing. You are paying for the location, the garage your car is being worked on in, the tools, the techs experience, and last of all you are paying for his labor.

Nobody wants to work for free
