Local shop fail

lol i own a shop and noway id charge that much. If you basically have to rob people on installs then you dont need to be in business buddy
I don't see enough to justify the $1,100 labor quote, but there's always a flip side. People will not pay for it if they don't see enough value. It's ****** that there are shops that rip people off, but maybe this kind of expense comes with outstanding service after the sale. We don't know that.

This shop can do some really pretty work, I had them finish my car but they didn't charge much since they knew people would see it. They just opened their 5th store so people are paying it. This is the kind of shop that charges over retail unless it's on sale and then it's 10% less.

Wow. I have no idea how shops really stay going or how these people even fall for these prices. Local shop around here quoted my best friend 200-250 just to run 1/0 and do the big 3. I told him bring it over and grab some "zig zags". Long atory short i was done with it in under 2 hours. Saved him 250
Should see the shop here in Danville or back home in Morehead...

Shops have overhead to pay for. Rent/employee wages/insurance/etc. Quite a bit different than working out of your garage for 'zig zags'.
True, but it's the price gouging driving people away.

(It shouldn't cost a budget 4 ch amp and a few speakers $1100 to install. To some people, that's a mortgage payment.

AI don't buy much at shops except dash kits or emergency RCA's and wire that's about it, we do have one local dealer I buy stuff from because he is a good dude and he knows what he is doing (he is a dealer not a shop that does installs but he could do Installs if he wanted). But shops have to charge that much guys. They have to pay rent on their building, pay for everything that sits in their shop, display cases, demo vehicles in some cases, employee salary, taxes, Ect.

Yes, you can get better for less if you can install yourself or know guys that can. But, to the average person that is not an Internet geek on car audio forums (like us), they just want to have a good stereo, and don't want to spend all their time researching, making an account online, ordering used stuff from random people. They just want to drop a paycheck, and have instant gratification.

I think you guys are a little closed minded, think about this... When MOST of you guys want to have a new roof put on your house.... Do you go on roofers forums and research how to replace it TO CODE by yourself? Then go and rent all the equipment you need and have you and your friends replace your roof? Maybe 1% of you. So keep that in mind.

We call up our redneck family, and spend a week fixing the roof

I just did an all DD system in a '99 Silverado for a member here with custom ported and door treatments for 1/4 the price he was quoted at a local shop. Saved him 1500.00......
Anymore details? Pics? I have an 05 ext cab Silverado..

I too think its unreal what some of these shops get paid to do installs. But like someone said, they get people to pay it. That simple.
