Local shop fail

One of the guys packing up my house saw my collection and it stuck a conversation. A local big chain shop wanted $1100 from him to install a 4 channel and speakers. No mods or anything else. How do these shops get this large? Anyway I saved this guy $800 bucks or more.

I just did an all DD system in a '99 Silverado for a member here with custom ported and door treatments for 1/4 the price he was quoted at a local shop. Saved him 1500.00......

Wow. I have no idea how shops really stay going or how these people even fall for these prices. Local shop around here quoted my best friend 200-250 just to run 1/0 and do the big 3. I told him bring it over and grab some "zig zags". Long atory short i was done with it in under 2 hours. Saved him 250

Maybe you guys don't value your time the same as these shops.

I do it for the love of doing it and making customers very happy. The profit is a side note for me.

Shops have overhead to pay for. Rent/employee wages/insurance/etc. Quite a bit different than working out of your garage for 'zig zags'.

Saturday, I went to a local shop to get a quote on a box. They were going to charge me $750 for JUST LABOR. Not including materials...

I don't expect you to have the answers as it's not your quote, but what exactly were they going to do? What shop is in question? We don't even know what vehicle this is for.

A 2008 malibu non Bose. They where going to run 8 gauge, install 4 channel and swap out speakers using existing mounting. That's it. Shop is audio one, they do a lot of car club stuff but they are quickly losing business. They did a 4th with 24 10s that couldn't do a 150. They where so proud of it

there's a local shop near me that had a 153db car with a pair of 9510s on an m4a. However, because of that they think they can charge up the @ss too.

They had 16 10s before in a flat wall. It did a 42 and they tried to play it off like it was built for SQ. 4th order that couldn't even play low lol. Truck sounded like ***

lol i own a shop and noway id charge that much. If you basically have to rob people on installs then you dont need to be in business buddy
