LMS Ultra...what do we know about it

the LMS's sole purpose should only be for very small area's where you want some wanging sounds, thats what its good at, tiny box huge sound.

how will you take 2 of your cheaper woofers and make them sound better and louder in a car where you cant fit em....

Actually no, that is not the goal of the LMS, the goal of the LMS is to be a Linear high SQ woofer.

Wouldn't two lesser woofers be able to equal the linear (low distortion) displacement of the LMS?

Agree small enclosure size is one of the upsides of the LMS if they really do well in their small recommended boxes.

As long as they are also linear woofers, the BL curve on the LMS is almost ruler flat out to xmax.

looks like 30mm within 1% deviation from their specs. I would think two drivers would be able to catch up with that easily, especially if they are more efficient and the power is spread across two woofers instead of one.

BTW, not downtalking the woofer, think its awesome and would love to try one. Just not practical on my budget //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

Ok, I didn't mean that sound quality can't be measured to a degree, obviously it can, but once you get those subs that are up there like the UL12, the LMS Ultra, the RE XXX, the Aura and the SI Mag V4, you get to a point where it almost becomes a preference for one sound versus another rather than one which measures a lot better because they measure so close to each other anyway.
I agree. The point is, some of the subs on that list (and a few Id include as well) could be purchased for a fraction of the price of one LMS Ultra, therefore allowing the purchase of multiple smaller drivers.
3.4 cubes is small for a 15 ported. Mags like small enclosures on average too, so that's not a good measuring stick. I do agree the one advantage running a single LMS Ultra has over multiple cheaper subs is if you are limited on space that the enclosure difference makes the cheaper, better performing choice (not LMS Ultra) not a possibility. So yes, if you just have to have an 18" sub, and it just has to be ported, and you only have 80% of the space necessary, you might as well bite the bullet and pay whatever Thilo decides they are worth this month. Or maybe find one used for what people use to pay new, if you are lucky. But if space is not such a concern, other options make much more sense than what AP has to offer, considering price.

I use to recommend purchasing LMS Ultras on this very board, back before the price hike. So its not a question of performance, or even personal feelings towards the owner. They are simply priced too high to be taken seriously in most situations. Thilo knew that when he chose to change his business model to accommodate a different market niche. So, sorry to anyone out there who is now offended when we, as a collective group, no longer look at the LMS Ultra, or really most/all off AudioPulse's products, as relevant to the average consumer or even enthusiast. Blame Thilo.

Ok, we are in 100% agreement then. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif At the old price the LMS was worth it, at the price now, no way in hell.
