LMS 5400 Owners, how are these subs ported?

I am curious. When they first came out I was prepaired to flip a good dime on one instead of buying my Treo SSX. I had called TC and asked for the works, even wanted the titanium cone, linear coils, extreme BL and all. They quickly talked me out of the cone, then said the linear coils wouldn't be right and the extreme BL would make it too peaky in a ported box. I figured, hmmm these guys just talked themselves out of an expensive sale, weird... Anyhoo I have seen a couple of videos of one and was impressed with its excursion limits. So how does one sound in a ported enclosure? I may be looking for a 15" version but will they handle a good 3K rms ? Any input , pics and vids would be very welcome...Polo. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

what? waht do you mean "asked for the works"? this aint fi man.. they dont do "options" and i laugh at "extreme bl" //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif and it sounds fine ported.. if you can get a good box design..

When they first came out yes they did options, you had your choice of cone material, motors, coils and suspension. If you didn't know this then you shouldn't have answered. BTW the use of extreme BL is from TC not me and yes the use of a sub that has such a high BL would be better suited in a sealed enclosure to obtain some sort of linearity. Maybe I should have stated, anyone who knows what they are talking about to answer, please... Polo..

no, they didn't. you never had a choice:laugh: you are clueless man. they used aluminum, those broke, so they went to ti, then black ti, now back to aluminum. try again asswad. Always used the 4hp linear, coil- they tried a quad coil initially, didn't go so well. again- you fail

Well it was sure the heck on there site before they were released, multiple options and custom configurations. Matter of fact I think you can get them custom now, but then again I may be wrong and money don't talk.... LMFAO...Polo.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

subs with 50mm of excursion shouldn't be in a ported box.

You are absolutely right that is why I was asking. That is what through me off when i was contacted by TC sounds. They basically was talking me out of there product like they didn't have it or something. I like what I see and if I was to buy one would probably be used, not wanting to deal with the company in general. Polo..

They work great in a ported box. Give them around 3.2-3.5 cubic feet and if you dont have AT LEAST 3000-4500 RMS, then dont bother with the sub. Its very hard to make a good box for a TC sub to play well in, but it is possible!

lms's are easy to port with very linear response, the 52's are the challenge with the ultra high BL,

4.5 - 7 cubic feet is your range for the 18'

2.5 - 4.0 is your range for the 15's

tune between 34-16Hz (later being for HT)

For a car, the 18" is flat in 4.6 cubic feet tuned to 26Hz, you may want a bit more top end so you can rise that up a tad. Make sure you use a high pass filter at or near tuning (as always) in a ported box.

anymore questions, give us a call direct.

Hey Kyle

thats exactly where I have my LMSs tuned to right now!!

I will post a video on youtube for you today

it looks like my rear hatch is going to launch on bass I love you

the 10hz note looks insane.

After finals im moving to four sundown SAZ3000Ds

with my electrical (4 KHC2400s and 3 1800s now)

that should bench closer to 7K per woofer instead of the 3500 now
