Lights Inside Wiring Question....

My friend just gave me an interior light stick from his old car.

It plugs into the cig lighter for power and it has a sensitivity knob on it. So I tried it out, however my system is to loud and therefore it pretty much stays on all the time, and when I turn the sensitivity down lower it doesn't come on at all because it only reads the speakers and not the subs.

Anyways...what I was wondering is, could I just cut the power wire at the end (therefore cutting off the cig plug) and put the wire ends of it with the ends of my sub wires and then would they hit when the subs hit? Please respond.

I dont see how putting the wires together would do anything besides make it stay on. Since it's getting power all the itme not just when bass hits...

Pretty sure he meant to just wire it in with the speaker leads.... And no, I don't think that that's a good idea. #1 that may or may not detract from the overall SQ, not sure. But your amplifier is just that, an amplifier. It doesn't simply put out 12 volts, it puts out however loud the music is. (don't know that exact equation, but ex: 150watts may equal a 19volt output to the speakers, wheras 300watts may equal a 40volt output), and a 12 volt light bulb cannot handle 40 volts. Understand? (side note: this is why house amps don't need to be so large, the input is already 120 volts). Try putting the "beat sensor"(whathaveyou) in padding or something so it isn't so sensitive, or something similair.

No you can't cut the lighter plug off and hook the wires to your subs. The lighter plug is giving the neon 12 volts DC, while speakers work on AC current. Two different animals.

Are you sure about this? quoted from you "AC current", fyi: AC=Alternating Current.
