Level 5 motor, sub options?

Probably pickin up a DC audio level 5 motor this weekend and I'm wondering what would be a good platform to build on it with. I loved my level 4s I had..

It will be either a 10" or 12".
I will be using a Aq2200 with all the ish in my sig..
Ill need a basket and recone, what do you guys reccomend? Ie got about 2.7 cubes max on tap to work with.. I'm thinking lots of port tuned lowwwww, I just listen to decaf stuff so I want something that kills lows. I know most of that depends on box, blah blah..

What are you guys opinions?

Throw a NIGHTSHADE recone in there, parts are rock solid and the 8 layer coil is a monster. Go softer than OEM suspension if you have the option. I'd suggest 2 of the 8" Z series spiders if you can swing it, OEM nightshade suspension is way too stiff for 2K. Copper coil has a slight edge in thermal handling and generally comes out more musical at the expense of a little efficiency.

Buy, borrow, or rent WT3 or get creative and do TS parameters long-hand and build a box around sub's specs.

I was assuming go a little softer. I definitely would rather it be more musical..

Yeah I probably need help with the TS parameters though I've never done anything like that.

Thanks for the info though man I appreciate it. One of the only people on here who dosent troll the hell out of anyone with a question lol..

TS parameters the long was is a pain, but not impossible with a good DMM, an amp, and some test tones. A google search should find you some tutorials on various DIY websites. Buy or borrow WT3 is much easier.

first thing that needs to be done with a lvl5 is a basket riser otherwise ur spiders will hit the top plate on rearward excursion. the top plate has a taller ring to it near the gap. i can build you the recone and all the parts you need to make it a killer woofer. i get DC audio dealers contacting me now for recones and they are happy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Cory you no I got nothing but love for ya but that is simply not true. I'm one of the most abusive folks out there with my equipment and never once have I hit the top plate with the spider. The pole would slam into the cap and launch it first.

What should be addressed is unless op wants to deal with split baffle or have a mounting ring machined for a 10 he will be much happier with a 12 vs 10 since the magnet is larger than the 10in basket.

im sorry Rob i have seen the damage. the part of the top plate that sticks up inside the id of the basket can limit the excursion of the sub IF the sub is extreamly pushed. this is before the pole would hit the cap. the bottom spider hits the raised ring on the top plate. if raised up on a basket riser 0 issues then you can also use a collar under the bottom spider to futher stiffen the joint.

where ya been Rob dont see ya much anymore ;(

Saw how you had yours, I wouldn't mind getting a ring machined, how think was yours? 3/8ths?

Rather be safe than sorry! But then again Rob beats the living **** out of his equipment, I won't be running nearly the power he is lol, doubt I'd have a problem

True story.
