Lets play pimp my ride with my gf's truck!

Ok here's the deal, xmas is coming and my girl likes my sound system. What I want to do is to put a system in her truck and still suprise her. So i'll be able to borrow her truck for an evening before xmas, and I need to come up with some stuff to put in it.

Here's what i've got on hand: Rockford punch P3001 mono amp pushing 413rms @ 2 ohm, 206rms @ 4 ohm. (2) Visonik V12DV6W subs with ****ing dual 6 ohm VC's.. useless unless installed in sets of 3..

So i've got 413 rms to work with at 2 ohm. This girl is a SQ nut, she hates it if stuff doesn't sound awesome, and doesn't really care a whole lot about loudness, but she likes it decently loud: as in having to shout to be heard, and still not really getting heard over the stereo.

I'm looking at doing a sealed box with one sub behind the seat in her truck: it's a 1992 Chevy 1900 series I think.. normal cab anyways, I know that; there's hardly any room at all in it:( Im thinking of what I can get locally, i've ruled out infinity (only got the shitty model here, the 12" 1230W one from BB) i've been looking at a 10" Type-R, although it may be too tight to fit. I'm going to look over the kicker CVR's, and take a look at the other alpine lines.. I think the rockford T3's pretty much ****, so i doubt i'll look at them.

What I would like from you guys is some feedback and ideas. I don't know anything about speakers yet, and i'd like to replace her factory 4x6's with something nice and clear sounding.. I've been thinking either infinity or MB-quart, maybe alpine.. dunno. I'm also looking at putting in a UV-cathode in her roof.. i'm gonna take one that you'd put in a computer, and hook it up to the remote on the amp, then bolt it to the roof, it should light up the cab nicely.. i'll throw in a switch too tho, incase its too ricey for her.

How are the rockford HU's?

What sub do you guys recommend?

What co-ax speaks do you guys recommend? (running off deck power of course)

I'll post up the dimensions of her behind the seat area, and the speaker sizes (I'm pretty sure its 4x6) next time I see her truck.

Give me some ideas of stuff you think would be cool to do, I look forward to being able to tell her that an entire squad of car audio enthusiests worked on her truck:D

Oh yeah, pics will be taken during the install, and posted up here.

You have BB in canada....liar !

Those visonics are junk, blow them. Stupid 6ohm coils.

While the Type R will get plenty loud off that amount of power it is really deep. Prob wont fit in a reg cab behind the seat.

Most people like the CVR's. Nice little sub.

MBquart tweeters are "harsh". Not something SQ people like.

4x6's are pretty crappy, no midbass at all. Its a hard size to shop for because they all pretty much ****.

A set of 6.5" coaxials in the door would be a better option if you could do it.

The only Rockford H/U would buy is a Denford, but thats a way different thing than what you are looking at.

Stick to the basics...

Pioneer, Alpine.

Cold cathodes are easy to hook up and come with switches. Very simple.

Been looking at either a type S or a CVR.. I remember holding a type-S and hearing one when I went to get my type-r's.. they sounded ok, but they weren't up loud. I remember them being decently shallow too, so they might be the way to go. Plus I get cost at the visions shop where i go, so it'll be dirt cheap. And yes, we have BB in Canada.. lol I work there sellin' computers. Not for long tho, I got my *** transfered to Car Audio. And yeah, the visoniks **** my peter.. would be the reason I replaced them and now I can't sell them :p

Type-S co-ax speaks sound ok?

Visions has some good stuff. Way better than BB/ Future shop.

Why not wait for the Boxing Day sales ?

Ive heard some 6.5" type S coaxials, they were pretty good off H/U power.

The tweeter is adjustible which is also another nice feature.

Components would be the best thing but i dont think you have the budget for some.

Well, the type-S 12 looks like a decent sub for the cash, but its rms is 300/900.. pushing 413 to it, it should probly be fine I think, especially sealed which increases power handling does it not?

If you build it properly there wont be any port noise.

Low tuned (28hz) enclosures have better low end that sealed.

But that also depends on the size of the enclosure.

Im guessing you are going to buy a pre fab enclosure ?

Prefab depends entirely on if the truck boxes at visions will fit, and wether or not I like the price of them. I doubt prefab vs. custom will be noticeable to her.. but you never know, it could. Once I get specs for the cab, i'll be able to look at wether building one is feasible.. is it hard to cut out the circle for the sub? The rest is pretty straight forward, especially in this case since the box is not likely going to need any bracing or deadening.. Although i could spray the inside with that fiber-based undercoating crap that I have..

If you have a jig saw and a compass then you can cut out the hole no problem

It takes a bit of tome to get it right but its well worth it when it fits in there.

Custom wont be cheap, it never is

Unless you get it done by a forum member but i dont know of any in SK

Check my math here on the displacement of a custom enclosure if I were to build it:

Enclosure is an odd shape, the front is slanted, so from the side it looks like a triangle beside a rectangle: but all I need to know is if i'm doing the calculations right.

30" long x 20" high x 5" deep for the rectangle.. taking 1.5" off the numbers to account for the 3/4" MDF = 28.5 x 18.5 x 3.5 = 1845.375 divided by 1728 = 1.0679 cu. ft.

If i'm doing that right, then i'm doing the triangle part right too.

the 12volt has wicked info in the forums too but almost all SQ based,a **** load of info however on electronics in there too, smart cats there.

The infinity 4x6 compnent plats sound good but like stated above not much midbass from them,You oculd modify that to hold a 6.5" easily anyway, even a set of reference 6.5 comps sound really good for the price (like $100 on ebay), ther eis better but for the price you cant beat them.

IMO the cvrs sound like poo, they will get loud but like most other kicker stuff they don't have the SQ to back them up.I found references in the appropate sealed box (1"mdf,.75CF,little fiberfill to break up the waves inside the box) sounded way better then the CVRS.

Tight area to work with for a ported box,can be done but need a decently big port size for no port noise depending on the sub, sealed will get plenty loud in their anyway.
