Let's get the *capacitor myth* tested on MythBusters!

we should start another brown not topic and get some caraudio subs in there, like 20 TC4hp 18's tuned to like .0003008hz

i dont know if it would brown note but i would love to sit in it

ok so instead of telling someone how the ****ing capacitor works then, you all just go on and blabber about how ****ing stupid people are that wanna use them.

go on then, tell everyone why a capacitor is so shit. it is a scientificaally proven fact that a capacitor steadies flow of electrons, or regulates it rather. it is also a fact that electrical equipment gets damaged by over and under voltage.

so, **** the mythbusters. do your own experiments and post somre comments up here. or the video, for the people that dont have sat/ cable...

I live like 30 minutes from those smart *****. They could call me in as the, "Expert" to help them test their stuff //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
Hmmm your in the Bay area...where are they? They are only an hour or two away from me in that case.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

It wouldnt matter if they use good or bad caps.

It only stores and discharges power, nothing too complicated there.

And by the way. You guys are asking mythbusters to test caps, which would suggest that you guys aren't sure of the outcome, but you have all made up your mind allready that caps are bad. shouldn't you wait till after the test, or test it for yourself like I did?

After reading the various replies in that thread from user einomies it is apparent that he has not the first clue about car audio equipment installation or implementation.

He might know a math theory or two but he needs to get his nose out of the books and look out the window a time or three to see what's happening outside...

technically, there is a difference. caps can differ in the rate that they charge/discharge, the amount of current they can store, how much of that current they can release in a burst, etc, etc... there is a whole slew of parameters that goes along with caps that most people are completely unaware of.

and just because we want to see mythbusters test it doesent mean we are unsure, it is more so to settle the naysayers.

but of course, im sure since you did such a thorough and investigatory test for yourself you looked into all the parameters and everything and were aware that there was a difference between good and bad caps... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ugh! NOOOO. People aren't getting it.

It's the exposure we're after. The myth is still running rampant.

MythBusters is a popular show. If they were to do it, then maybe it would reach more people and reverse the insanity.

They used crap speakers for the brown note....they'll use crap caps for this
You're kidding right? Have you ever heard of Meyer Sound?

http://www.meyersound.com/mseries/m2d-sub/

This is what they used. This is what they use in Stadium Concerts to blow people away.

They used PA speakers in an open space...so yeah, they had several stacks of cabinets, but PA speakers are hardly what I'd use if I was trying to make a ton of infrasound.
If they had tried it in a small room, with long-stroke drivers...would have boosted their SPL at really low frequencies.
See above reply Jim. You've never heard these before. They used exactly what they should have used for that experiment.

Something with a max peak output of 138db and a listed frequency response of 28 and up is HARDLY what I'd use to create loads of infrasonic bass, as said before.

While NO DOUBT an excellent choice for typical pro audio applications, I fail to see how that could be a good chioce for the task at hand.

But maybe you know something I don't.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

+1
A test done here is not going to reach 99 percent of the general public. For you ignorant types, there IS a world outside of car audio forums. What use would it be if a test were done here? Shops around the nation would still use caps all day long. The point of mythbuster is to get national exposure. Word of mouth will do the rest. To prove once and for all to the car audio world, does a cap work or not.
